History[]
Originally developed by an enterprising zoologist attempting to study a particularly elusive species of rodent inhabiting the dunes deep in the vast deserts of Neri, the Confuser was designed to emit a narrow band pulse capable of manipulating a target’s theta brain waves, causing temporary confusion and drowsiness. As the story goes, upon first testing out the prototype the Zoologist ended up accidentally Confusing himself, and was found wandering the dunes in a sunburnt and dehydrated state by a small band of Sand Nomads. After salving his burns and providing him with water, the nomads asked about the strange item they’d found him carrying, and in his still semi-befuddled state he revealed its use.
Upon their return to civilization, the nomads demanded the Confuser as compensation for their life-saving assistance, and the Zoologist had no choice but to give it up. In the following months and years refined versions of the prototype started to pop up, typically used for nefarious purposes such as infiltration and robbery.
Their efficacy has caused many local authorities to crack down on their use - particularly in settlements, where being caught with one can have relatively serious consequences. However, given their non-lethal method of overcoming opponents, they were one of the earliest weapons to be sanctioned for use in Battledome matches.
