Augmented Humans - known widely as Cyborgs - were developed to compensate for the fact that traditional Humans weren't very resilient versus extreme environmental conditions, the fact of which would prove a hindrance to early colonisation efforts on numerous of the planets in Federation Space.
Designed primarily by NetixX Labs Inc, the Cyborg line of products went through several development iterations before units were deemed commercially viable. Initially only male Human bodies were cybernetically enhanced, but comprehensive research conluded that male Cyborgs, whilst highly effective at construction and labour, were less capable of integrating into the multi-species communities evolving across the Federation. It was consequently decided to attempt to manufature a female line of Cyborgs. After conducting thorough test scenarios on Eyeke, the data garnered from the female line of Cyborgs strongly supported the initial hypothesis that they would be more capable of communal integration and further development.
As such, two lines of Cyborgs are now produced in tandem, with iteration T15 being the male, and iteration T8 the female variant.
