Relatively little is known about these individuals beyond the fact that they are affiliated with one or more underground organisations involved in various criminal enterprises from theft of sensitive data, to disruption of both public and private sector facilities throughout Federation space. As with stealth mercenaries there is some speculation that an alliance of sorts exists, and that entities with nefarious intent may purchase the services of one or more of their members on a temporary basis. However, there remains no concrete proof for the existence of this alliance, as these hackers live arduously up to their “Mysterious” prefix.
Hackers have on occasion been apprehended, but even under intense duress none has ever revealed their current benefactor or whether there is indeed a hackers’ alliance. One former interrogator reported that he stroked feathers across an incarcerated Grey hacker’s body (Greys are notoriously ticklish) for 144 hours, after which he had gleaned all manner of embarrassing secrets but failed to garner the information that he sought.
Mysterious hackers do show up rarely in the Battledome arena, employing their skills to glitch out the opposing team’s technology, making it misfire or shut down at opportune moments to tilt the odds of victory in their favour.
